Artists
Bio
In the series Alternalife, artist P.Detta chooses to convey the idea that the mundane is only a few alterations, sometimes letters, away from the extraordinary, the wishful, the paradoxical and the surreal.
An appealing concept that hopefully will make us more aware of our surroundings, while maintaining tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Hence the Palms hotel of Las Vegas, Nevada, receptacle of sun & sin is only an S away from going pious. And “can u believe it’s not butter?” that skillfully slid up Ms.Schneider in “Last Tango in Paris”?.
The artist’s observations are not merely an exercise in play on words, though a respected anglo-saxon tradition. They read heavily on subtexts and visions.
“Psalms”, for example, is seen as a Las Vegas attempt to attract the elusive Bible Belt crowd. Envisioned as a 150 room hotel (one per Psalm) to “assuage’ what hails both tourists and locals.
“Roberto2” is an observation on our ever polished and Astroturf nature. And “I can’t believe it’s not tango” is a commentary on how even sex has been demystified, over chronicled and oftentimes sponsored in the www era.
P.Detta is a favorite of collectors like Carla Fendi, one of the 5 Fendi sisters and Angela Missoni of the eponymous fashion house, and can also be found in private residences in New York, Miami, Geneva, Chicago, Milan, Rome, London, San Paolo, Lima and Munich.
