Bio
Sukey's photography moves from the intimacy of her personal work, centered around rites of passage within the family unit, to familiar faces in showbiz, music and current affairs. All this via personal projects on women, midlife and the world of counter-culture party-goers.
Sukey has worked as a 'creative' in various areas of the arts. After an initial career as an actress, she was signed as a solo recording artist before beginning her work as a photographic artist at the turn of the century. Her portraiture work develops a concern with the difficulties of self-presentation and phenomenal appearance... the play of what we see and what we know and the heightened moment.
Despite being a relative newcomer, her work has appeared in publications such as the Independent on Sunday, the Radio Times and a recent cover and feature on Dame Joan Bakewell in Saga magazine.
Sukey has won various awards including being a finalist twice in the prestigious Photographic Prize at the National Portrait Gallery. Pictures of comedian Bill Bailey and broadcaster Dame Joan Bakewell have recently been acquired for the Gallery's permanent collection. She lives in London with her husband, musician Will Parnell and their two children, Lola and Xac.
